At a recent Major League Soccer match, Calvin Ayre’s Bodog was promoting its Free Play poker and gambling product on a billboard. What makes the advert a grey area in terms of advertising legislation prohibiting the promotion of gambling, is that the ad only promotes the Free to Play online casino, which includes a variety slots online

But as the domain is barely legible, potential players would type in the domain bodog.ca and then be redirect to the EU website where one can play for real money.

The Canadian law states that is illegal for any person to take bets online from Canadian or advertise gambling websites

Out-of-Home Marketing Association did however say on their website that free game play websites and promotion of websites ending in .net appear to be acceptable

These advertising loopholes are also exacerbated by the fact the some of the websites and where they are physically hosted.

The adverts payoff line "We Are What Happens in Vegas", features a photograph of a lady in a proactive position, spread across what looks like a blackjack table.

The company is registered to 0759920 B.C. Ltd. and the only available contact person is James L. Philip a chartered account who is also labeled as a director.

The advert was seen 6th October 2013 when the Vancouver Whitecaps' played the Portland Timbers.

An interest meeting took place in Vancouver this morning whereby the development company Paragon Ltd, put forward to the committee it’s drawings for a new land based casino in the heart of BC alongside Place Stadium.

At the press briefing, which took place to highlight and communicate the concept, was a large group of people opposed to the development which was really just a repetition of what took place the last time the company put forward similar plans.

The head of Paragon explained that they managed to gather some key learnings from objections that were put forward which has stood them in a better position when conceptualizing the new building.

It was apparent that the majority of objects were around the fact that residents didn’t want another Vegas themed style building in their neighbourhood.

With this is mind Paragon has put something that doesn’t even resemble a casino but appears more like another office block. The $535 million casino building of close to 700,000 square foot is set to comprise of 2 hotels, conference facilities, retail shops, and will host Edgewater casino which has hundreds of slot machines and gaming tables

The proposed plan does still require approval from Vancouver city before any of the changes can go ahead.

The head of the group against casino, Sandy Garossino explained that she wanted to see what the future plans entailed.

The building dubbed as a ‘world class urban resort’ will need this approval to go ahead if their plans to open in 2016 will be met.

Kathryn Stokes, won the jackpot amount of $1,8 million while playing the slot at the Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls late on Tuesday afternoon.

It was only the second occasion that she had visited this casino and was completely shocked when she hit the Jackpot. "It's unbelievable," said Stokes who is a big fan of the late Michael Jackson.

Kathryn Stoke went on to explain that she was determined to win a little bit of money and decided to sink $60 of credits into this machine. The 55-year-old who was simply tagging along with a friend said she didn’t have to wait long to hit the $1,862,447.25 jackpot. She had only been sitting in front of the slot machine for about an hour before lady luck visited her.

I am a ‘huge’ fan of Michael Jackson and "that's what drew me to it," said Stokes who works at with the Peel Regional Police in Brampton, Toronto.

The whole winning experience is yet to sink in and she explained that at this point she is not entirely sure what she plans to do with the money. Although she did indicate that perhaps it would be nice to treat herself to a new vehicle.

She can definitely add herself to the growing list of Canada’s biggest jackpot winners.

<![CDATA[Canada’s BCLC non-compliance with casino transaction reporting]]>Wed, 18 Sep 2013 20:05:14 GMThttps://edmontoncustomhomebuilders.ca/1/post/2013/09/canadas-bclc-non-compliance-with-casino-transaction-reporting1.html There seems to be large sum of cash that have not been reported by the B.C. Lottery Corporation and they are responsible for reporting such events to Canada’s money laundering watchdog.

Furthermore, this has apparently been something has is not new but has been ongoing for the past 3 years with the BCLC not complying with the rules as stipulated by the Finacnical Transaction and reports Analysis centre of Canada.

There does appear to be some discrepancy over a rule which overns how these numerous transactions were submitted by an individual during a 24 hour time frames, these amounts totalled $10 000.

This is apparently not the only indecent that has occurred between British Columbia Lottery Commission when another fine was issued totalling $700,000 way back in 2011. The outcome of this has yet to be determined and it is likely to go on for at least a few more years.

Clarity was requested about 24 months previously on how exactly BCLC should be reporting back on these multiple large transaction as they believe it is necessary that they are reported and reported regularly. They said so far that Fintrac has not made it clear what the exact rules is.

Further investigation was conducted when a call was made to Fintrac in Ottawa but there was no response.

A lway does exist however that amount larger than $10,000 must be reported to Fintrac and labelled “Large Cash Transaction Report.”. If the workers believe that money laundery may be involved then they are to report the incident as a “SuspiciousTransaction Report.

Most of the reporting that has taken place was done correctly although a single big amount of cash was filled late , believed to be a Mission Casino. BCLC explained that this happened due to the fact that the client didn’t have the required Identification to take claim to this jackpot amount. It was later reported that this amount was paid when the client did in fact present he correct identification about five days later.

“BCLC recognizes that this has been a repeat finding over the past three years; however, BCLC continues to wait for clarification of the “24 Hour Rule” in the Department of Finance Consultation Paper dated December 2011 entitled “Strengthening Canada’s Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorist Financing Regime,” it said. “To date the method by which BCLC calculates (large cash transaction reports) has not been questioned by Fintrac.”

<![CDATA[Bwin lacklustre performance]]>Sat, 31 Aug 2013 11:18:07 GMThttps://edmontoncustomhomebuilders.ca/1/post/2013/08/bwin-lacklustre-performance.htmlInternet betting giant Bwin.Party Digital Entertainment has released its first half 2013 financial results, noting lower revenues, and losses.

Key financial indicators for the half ending June 30th, 2013 were:

 • Total revenue down at €342.5 million (H1-2012: €410 million)

 • EBITDA down at €60.7 million (H1-2012: €85.6 million)

 • Loss after tax at - €11.6 million - less painful than H1-2012's - €21.3 million loss.

 • Sportsbook revenue down at €118.3 million (H1-2012: €128.1 million)

 • Casino and games revenues down at €110.8 million (H1-2012: €139.7 million)

 • Poker down at €62.3 million (H1-2012: €96.4 million)

 • Bingo down at €27.2 million (H1-2012: €31.5 million)

Commenting on his company's performance, Bwin CEO Norbert Teufelberger said: “The first half was always going to be a challenge as we set about optimising the shape and size of our business, with a much greater focus on nationally regulated and to-be-regulated markets. As predicted, this meant that revenues declined but it also meant that we could make further substantial reductions in our cost base."

"However, our performance and revenue is behind where we expected it to be at this point. This is partly due to external factors but also due to operational challenges associated with our dotcom migration in December 2012."

“Our move to Agile is starting to produce benefits in terms of productivity, speed of development and implementation. Over the next twelve months we expect to double the number of software releases whilst continuing to improve product quality and platform stability."

“Our new PartyPoker product is ready for launch, firstly into the dotcom environment and then into our core nationally regulated markets. The launch will reposition the PartyPoker brand ahead of the opening of the US market and revitalize the product, ensuring that it more than meets the expectations of today’s recreational digital consumer."

"Also to come in 2013 is a brand new mobile interface in sports; a new social sports betting app that we have developed with Nordeus; the launch of premium.com, a new service focused on high value customers; and PartyPoker’s next phase of development when we will introduce additional features for the casual player."

Other highlights for Bwin during the half were:

 • Company set to save €70 million in costs this year, and up to €20 million in 2014

 • Online gambling license application filed with New Jersey regulator, and systems being installed in Borgata Casino ahead of planned launch in November 2013.

 • Launch of "all-new version of PartyPoker" imminent.

 • EBITDA reflects the impact of a turnover tax on sports betting in Germany, ISP blocking in Belgium and the closure of slots in Spain

 • Full year revenue expected to be between 14% and 17% below that of 2012 with clean EBITDA margins likely to be 2% lower than 2012 (excluding revenues and costs associated with a US launch).

Speaking about the first eight weeks of the second half, Teufelberger noted: “In the eight week period ended 25 August 2013, average net daily revenue was down 8% versus the second quarter of 2013 and down 21% versus the same period in 2012."

"An improving position in sports betting in August has been hampered by ISP blocking in Greece and a short delay in the launch of our new poker product. However, we expect to see further benefits from our cost reduction program to come through by the end of the year and into 2014."

“We now expect full year revenues, excluding the US, to be between 14% and 17% lower than 2012 with clean EBITDA margins, again excluding the US, likely to be 2% lower than last year."

<![CDATA[Bwin Issues Trading Update]]>Wed, 10 Jul 2013 21:01:06 GMThttps://edmontoncustomhomebuilders.ca/1/post/2013/07/bwin-issues-trading-update.html
Internet betting giant bwin.party Digital Entertainment has released a trading update, noting some of the company's goals for the rest of the years. Some of the goals that bwin posted in the trading updates were:

• Continue cost-cutting in order to achieve €70 million in savings by thethe end of 2013
• Pursuing New Jersey online gambling licensing with a November launch in mind
• The continuation of its focus shift from volume to value
• Reports that revenue during Q2-2013 has followed a similar path to that seen in Q1 reflecting the introduction of the turnover tax on sports betting in Germany in July 2012 and a lower than expected gross win margin in sports

Bwin CEO Norbert Teufelberger was quoted in the trading update as saying: “Trading in the year-to-date reflects our shift from volume to value, the introduction of a turnover tax in Germany in July 2012, as well as some issues we faced following the migration of bwin.com customers in December 2012, all against a challenging competitive and market backdrop."

"However, the process to optimise the shape and size of our business, with a greater focus on regulated and to-be-regulated markets, is on-track and we remain focused on returning our business to growth."

“While the revenue performance was down on last year, we remain on course to deliver the targeted €70m of cost savings in 2013 with more to follow in 2014. During the second half we expect to roll out our new real money and social
gaming products as well as, regulations permitting, the launch of our poker and casino games in New Jersey.”

Speaking about the firm's other products Teufelberger said, "Ahead of the launch of our new poker product, the trends seen in Q1 in casino and poker continued during the second quarter."

"Whilst we retain a leadership position in our two largest markets, competitive pressures in both the UK and Italy have continued to hold back our bingo business. Our cost reduction initiatives remain on-track and we are set to deliver €70 million of savings in 2013, with more to come in 2014."

The CEO also went on to state that the firm's payment business is set to launch a new mobile product. Speaking about that product Teufelberger said, "Additionally, Kalixa Pro, our service for small and medium-sized businesses, will launch its mobile point-of-sale product in September, enabling the making and acceptance of card payments anywhere and at any time."
